Heard a song today. The words went something like this:
"Its all right, I'm ok / I kinda like doing things this way."
"And the life that God gives / is the only life that I was meant to live."
The song was by John Reuben, a Rap/Rock crossover artist. The song had a kind of mellow, hip-hop groove. I had heard it before but it struck me today as being very soothing. I realized just how much I wish to live a different life than God gives. If He's really God and He really loves me, then the only smart thing to do is take life as it comes and see God in everything. I always catch myself wishing I could be different, act different, or do different things. When I see my life now I am dissatisfied. When I look ahead I get scared. But... Every time I look back I see only His mercy and guidance. He has brought me through an incredible journey and has never let me down. Why is it so hard to "live the life I was meant to live." For 3 1/2 minutes of song today, I saw again the hope in it and surrendered a bit more. Thanks John. You rock!

Highest Halls of Human Happiness
I am such a blessed man. The late Peter Marshall was fond of referring to marriage as "The highest halls of human happiness." I most certainly concur. We have just returned from what was my first family vacation as a step-dad. I have thoroughly enjoyed blessing our boys with fun activities, I have been thrilled to hear heartfelt "thank you's", and have had my heart melted by constant hugs and "I love you's". Joshua and Braden had just been at their dad's for six weeks which made the time with them even more special. The icing on the cake is seeing the true and deep happiness of my dear wife. Knowing all that she endured in her first marriage and as a single mom makes it extra special to be God's instrument of restoration in their lives. I enjoy my wife so much and appreciate so much the way she completes me. Luci has been truly chosen and prepared by God for me. I cannot imagine anyone more perfect for me. Marriage is of course difficult. And having a good marriage is even more hard work. But to see that work reflected in her smiling face and joyful heart is more than reward enough. Thank you Jesus for my marriage!
